2004 Il Poggione, Brunello di Montalcino

Montalcino, Tuscany · Red · 100% Sangiovese

Il Poggione was founded by Lavinio Franceschi in the late 1800s, near Sant'Angelo in Colle in the warmer south of Montalcino, and his descendants still own it today. It was one of the original producers of Brunello, which must be made entirely from Sangiovese and aged for years before release.

Now over twenty years old, it has moved into its savoury stage: dried cherry, leather, tobacco and earthy notes, with the firm, fresh backbone Sangiovese is known for.
