1994 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron, 2e Cru Classé

Pauillac, Bordeaux · Red · From vineyards of around 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot

Pichon Baron is one of Pauillac's grand second growths, with its fairytale château facing its sister estate, Pichon Comtesse, across the road. The two were once a single estate, until it was split in 1850. Baron Raoul de Pichon Longueville's share became Pichon Baron, and his sisters' share became Pichon Comtesse.

Over thirty years old, it's now in its mature, savoury phase: cedar, cigar box, dried blackcurrant and earth. A rare chance to taste properly aged Bordeaux.
