2005 Château Prieuré-Lichine, 5e Cru Classé

Margaux, Bordeaux · Red · Mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot

The estate began life as a priory, where Benedictine monks made wine for their table and their services, which is where the first half of its name comes from. In 1951, the wine writer Alexis Lichine bought it with just 11 hectares of neglected vines, added his name, and rebuilt it.

2005 was one of the great Bordeaux vintages. Expect blackcurrant, violets and cedar, with Margaux's trademark perfume and elegance.
